PROCARBAZINE
(administered orally)
Special precautions: Check with your doctor or hospital emergency
room immediately if severe headache, stiff neck, chest pains, or rapid
heartbeat, with nausea and vomiting, occur while you are taking this medicine.
These may be symptoms of a serious high blood pressure reaction. When taken
with certain foods, drinks, or other medicines, procarbazine can cause
very dangerous reactions. To avoid such reactions: Do not eat foods
that have a high tyramine content (most common in foods that are aged to
increase their flavor), such as cheeses, sour cream, yogurt, pickled herring,
chicken liver, canned figs, raisins, bananas, avocados, soy sauce, broad
bean pods, yeast extracts, or meats prepared with tenderizers. Do not drink
alcoholic beverages, including beer and wines (especially chianti and other
hearty red wines).
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention:
Drowsiness, muscle or joint pain; muscle twitching; nervousness; nightmares;
nausea; vomiting; sweating; weakness; darkening of skin; dizziness or lightheadedness
when getting up from a lying or sitting position; hair loss.

“I think about getting up, but I would only end up circling around the
house, looking out each window as I passed . . . dragging my fingers across
each neglected sill. Searching for someone outside to die beneath my gaze.”
“Each day I remove a shovelful of silt from my own grave. It gives me
something to look forward to.”
“You’re your own favorite corpse,” she interrupted.
“It’s true. And my love of the thought of my own demise becomes
ever deeper as it is fed by the smell of my burning flesh, which fills
my nostrils and infects the air around me.”
She said:
“Oh god, I am so stupid. . . such a fool, I’ve been destroying myself
over your mixed signals, and you don’t even know what the hell signals
you are giving. I seriously think you don’t even know you are doing it.”
“Doing what, I said to myself, and then again, aloud.”
“Quietly acting like you’re already dead. You like it—NO, you love it.
You’re your own favorite corpse (she said this twice). And at the same
time, it seems like you’re begging for help, starved for love and in desperate
need of it. Yet you politely throw your guests out of second-story windows.
Who are you hiding from? People, or yourself? And you’re only excuse is
guilt, you feel it and you pass it on to others. That’s the stupidest crock
of shit I’ve ever heard.” |
“I just drove around and then I saw that billboard—it was a hand-painted
one so I knew that they were not going to change it for a long time. And
it was on the freeway too. I just saw it and it said, ‘Feel the Velvet,
Baby.’ And I looked at it and said, NO, not ‘Feel the Velvet,’ feel the
pain. I knew that ‘feel the pain’ was the hidden meaning. You need to drink
scotch because you’re in pain, right, so you wouldn’t feel the pain anymore.
So I wanted to say that you shouldn’t not feel the pain, you should feel
it.”
“So I just changed Telly’s face around, made up all of the parts so
he would look more convincing, so he would look more like he would be saying
that, and then threw in some other odds and ends like some weird little
monster dog jumping out of the picture—I pasted that one. And had some
guy with a gun in the corner, and gave Telly one of those mouths from dental
school opening wide.” |
